The President's direct National Artificial Intelligence Strategy Committee held a "One-Year Performance Report on the Committee Launch" at Seoul Square on the 8th to mark its first anniversary, announcing major policy achievements over the past year and future activity plans.
This performance report was organized to inform the public of the committee's accomplishments on its first anniversary and to share future policy directions for building Korea's AI Daejeon-hwan. Attending were Ha Jeong-woo, Standing Vice Chairman; Lee Hae-min, Chief of Staff for AI Future Planning; Im Moon-young, Member of the National Assembly; 10 division heads; two special committee chairs; TF (Task Force) leaders; and private sector members, totaling over 150 participants.
Since its launch on September 8 last year, the committee has served as the highest command tower for Korea's AI policy, connecting private-sector expertise with government policy capabilities and supporting the formulation of national AI strategies and the coordination and implementation of major policies across ministries and sectors. In February this year, it finalized the "Korea Artificial Intelligence Action Plan," comprising 99 execution tasks and 326 policy recommendations under three policy pillars and 12 strategic areas aimed at "leapfrogging into a top-three AI powerhouse."
First, the Technology Innovation and Infrastructure Division supported the establishment of an efficient system for utilizing national AI computing resources and included domestic NPU (Neural Processing Unit) in the AIDC national strategic industrialization plan as one of three mega-projects. It also reflected incentives for attracting AIDC facilities outside the capital region into the Special Act on AIDC, which will take effect from March next year.
The Science Division established the "National Strategy for Science and Technology × AI" in November last year and formulated the "K-Shoot Promotion Strategy" in February this year. It also supported the planning of the National Science-AI Research Center (NAIS). The Basic Medical AI sub-group within the Science Division supported the formulation of an "AI Basic Medical Strategy" and will proceed with pilot testing and expansion of a one-stop AI platform to secure golden time for emergency patients, as well as expand public medical AI highways.
The Industry AX and Ecosystem Division formulated the "Manufacturing AI 2030 Strategy," the "Humanoid Industry Ecosystem Creation and Expansion Plan," and the "Autonomous Driving AI Demonstration and Commercialization Roadmap." In the future, it will support the "2030 Global AI Decacorn (startups valued over $10 billion) Company Cultivation Plan" and the "Transportation and Logistics AI Daejeon-hwan Plan Centered on Autonomous Driving."
The Public AX Division supported the early implementation of an AI-based integrated citizen complaint platform, while the Data Division prepared guidelines for AI-friendly management of public data, such as converting HWP files that AI cannot recognize into HWPW format. In the future, it will support data assetization.
The Social Division established the "Basic Plan for Employment Stability During Industrial Transition" and will strengthen policies for inclusive, human-centered AI going forward.
The Defense and Security Division built a defense data catalog and expanded the Ministry of National Defense AI organization. It will support the prompt implementation of the Defense AI Act in the future.
The Global Cooperation Division launched a cross-ministerial consultation body for global AI governance in June this year and began establishing a national AI standardization governance system. It will continue to cooperate with foreign countries on AI policy. The Education and Talent Division supported AI talent cultivation programs, while the AI Democracy Division supported the formulation of strategies to realize the world's best AI democratic government. In the future, it plans to develop a prototype of an "AI Public Forum" to lead global discussions on AI democracy.
