On the 5th, KT announced that it participated in the "2026 READY Korea Integrated Wildfire Suppression Training," held in Chilgok County, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, and organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. During the event, KT reviewed its communication service support system and network recovery capabilities for large-scale wildfire situations.
The "READY Korea Training" is a government-wide disaster preparedness exercise involving central government ministries, local governments, fire and forestry authorities, other relevant institutional investors, and private enterprises. This particular training focused on a large-scale wildfire scenario, with KT being the only telecommunications company to participate on-site.
As the operator of the Disaster Safety Communication Network (DSCN), KT comprehensively reviewed its response system for providing communication services during disasters and ensuring rapid recovery. Simulating a scenario where communication facilities were damaged by wildfires, KT activated emergency communication networks and swiftly assessed the status and scope of any communication outages. The company shared real-time situational updates between its headquarters and the field, while also collaborating organically with group companies and partners, approaching the exercise as if it were an actual incident.
In particular, KT verified the national disaster response communication system by simultaneously operating mobile base station vehicles for both the Disaster Safety Communication Network and commercial networks. Through this, KT supported the maintenance of DSCN quality for institutional investors dispatched to the scene, provided emergency communications to residents in affected areas, and attempted to restore communication services.
Through this training, KT established an opportunity to strengthen its disaster response capabilities, including cooperation systems, emergency communication support, and on-site recovery in the event of a major disaster. The company stated it will make every effort to minimize damage in actual disasters.
Hwang Gyeong-hui (SVP), Head of the Eastern Network Operations Division at KT's Network Business Unit, said, "Providing stable communication services during disaster situations requires swift on-site response and excellent recovery capabilities above all else." He added, "Going forward, based on close cooperation with relevant institutional investors, we will continue to strengthen our network response capabilities to ensure that citizens experience no inconvenience in using communication services when disasters occur."
