Chef Yoon Nam-no revealed that he took home only 800,000 won from the restaurant he recently opened last month.
Recently, a video titled "For those who can't save money… A reality-based financial lecture by Hyonam's father that makes you want to reflect on your own actions" was released on the YouTube channel "Studio Slam."
In the video, Yoon discussed food, money management, and investing with Chef Park Hyo-nam.
When the conversation turned to the restaurant he recently opened, Yoon Nam-no stated, "I don't have a salary. Last month, I earned 800,000 won." In response, Park Hyo-nam advised, "You must set your own salary. Apart from the employees' salaries, the owner also needs a salary."
Explaining why he took home only 800,000 won last month, Yoon Nam-no said, "When I think about it, the reason I only got 800,000 won is that my credit card bill for food came to 5 million won."
He continued, "I bought and fed the kids. It wasn't just me eating," explaining that he spent a significant amount of money buying food for his staff.
Park Hyo-nam expressed surprise, asking, "You bought it for the kids?" before advising, "Set your salary there. Whether it's 1 million won or 2 million won, set a salary and put it into a savings account."
He added, "It will be fulfilling to do so, but you'll end up saying, 'Ah, Father was right back then.'"
However, Yoon responded, "I'm fine as long as I can eat delicious food," indicating that he preferred eating good food over saving money.
In response, Park said, "Sit here," holding onto Yoon Nam-no and launching into a full-fledged financial lecture, which drew laughter.
Meanwhile, Yoon recently opened a restaurant in Apgujeong, Seoul. He previously revealed on the MBC variety show "Omniscient Interfering View" that he took out a loan of approximately 600 million won to open the restaurant.
At the time, Yoon said, "I don't have a salary. The loan interest goes out." He also confessed that when Chef Park Eun-young got married, he had only 80,000 won in his bank account because he was preparing to open the restaurant, and thus could not give a wedding gift.
