Comedian Lee Kyung-gyu revealed that he is still undergoing medication treatment as he recalled the time he was diagnosed with panic disorder.
The EBS documentary "Witness to the Era," which aired on the 25th, featured an episode titled "Active Duty Lee Kyung-gyu."
In the broadcast, Lee reflected on his life as a comedian and shared the hardships he experienced during his broadcasting career.
He said, "When I did talk shows, I realized people have a lot to say. While listening to their stories, I felt that they carried such pain."
He then recalled, "I developed an illness while filming. My chest pain was severe, but tests showed no problems. However, my heart was pounding and I broke out in cold sweats."
Lee Kyung-gyu explained, "By chance, I went to a psychiatrist for counseling and was told it was panic disorder. The name itself was unfamiliar. At first, I didn't quite understand."
He added, "Physical changes are unavoidable. It seems my mind does not allow me to accept them," and revealed, "In fact, I still cannot stop taking the medication. I am dependent on it."
Although he continues treatment for panic disorder, his passion for broadcasting remains unchanged.
Lee Kyung-gyu expressed his wish to stand in front of a camera even at the age of 80, saying, "I did (all broadcasts) intensely. Otherwise, one cannot succeed."
He added, "Even then, constantly throwing out words and telling nonsensical stories—wouldn't that be the greatest luck?"
