"What we need to open a new century is 'fierce pursuit of our goals.'"
Marking the group's 60th anniversary on Thursday, Hyosung Group Chairman Cho Hyun-joon, called on employees to fundamentally transform their work methods and organizational culture. He made this statement at the commemorative ceremony held at the Seoul Mapo headquarters.
He said that "the past 60 years have not been an easy path," noting that "the perseverance and spirit of challenge among our employees, who did not yield despite difficulties, has been the driving force behind today's Hyosung."
Cho also cited national debt, fiscal deficits, prolonged wars, and the spread of protectionism to highlight uncertainties in the global business environment.
He stated, "Our company is no exception to these crises," emphasizing that "what is needed to overcome the crisis and achieve a new leap forward is a fierce pursuit of our goals."
He then presented practical principles: "Hyosung with tenacious resolve" that sees things through despite difficulties, "meticulous Hyosung" that considers all possibilities and executes flawlessly, and "trustworthy Hyosung" that customers can rely on. He made it clear that these are the attitudes essential for opening a new century.
This year's "Hyosung Person of the Year" award went to Jason Neal, head of Hyosung Heavy Industries' U.S. subsidiary (Hyosung HICO), who led the expansion of the company's power business in North America. In June, Hyosung HICO established a joint venture with a Quanta subsidiary to build a U.S. production system for gas circuit breakers (GCBs) up to 800 kV (kilovolts).
In the AI (artificial intelligence) data center sector, the company achieved over $1.7 billion in direct and indirect orders combined in 2025-2026. Indeed, Hyosung's order volume in the U.S. power market is expected to more than double from approximately $2.38 billion last year to about $5.29 billion this year.
The special award for "Hyosung Person of the Year" was presented to Topang Construction, a partner of Hyosung Heavy Industries' Construction PU. The category-specific "Hyosung Person of the Year" awards were given to five employees who achieved outstanding results in marketing, technology, research, and support.
Hyosung traces its origins to Dongyang Nylon, founded in 1966 by founder Choo Hong-je. Today, the group focuses on power equipment, spandex, and financial automation equipment, operating over 100 manufacturing and trading subsidiaries in more than 30 countries worldwide.
Cho said, "If your dedication has protected us through the past 60 years, the strength to build the next 100 years lies in our determination to challenge until the end and succeed no matter what." He urged employees to "together create the future of 'Morning Star, Hyosung,' which will illuminate a new century."
