Samsung Heavy Industries announced on the 30th that it has secured orders for two large gas carriers (VLGCs) from a shipowner in the Bermuda region, worth 307.4 billion won. The vessels are scheduled to be delivered by February 2030.
In the commercial shipbuilding sector, Samsung Heavy Industries has maintained an active order flow, securing orders for 16 vessels in the second half of the year, following 28 vessels in the first half. As a result, the company achieved total commercial shipbuilding orders of 44 vessels and $7.5 billion this year, reaching 132% of its target ($5.7 billion).
By vessel type, the orders include 18 LNG carriers (including one LNG-FSRU), two ethane carriers, six gas carriers, four container ships, and 14 crude oil tankers.
Samsung Heavy Industries' offshore division secured orders for two FLNG (Floating Liquefied Natural Gas production facilities) units worth $4.4 billion, recording 54% of its annual order target of $8.2 billion. The combined shipbuilding and offshore order performance totals 46 vessels and $11.9 billion, which is 86% of the annual order target of $13.9 billion.
A Samsung Heavy Industries official emphasized, "Based on our construction experience accumulated across various vessel types and our competitive edge in eco-friendly technology, we will proactively respond to customer demand."
