Myung Jae-hyun, a member of the group BOYNEXTDOOR, used the phrase "attracting customers" to describe actor Lee Kwang-soo's fan communication activities, and apologized after controversy arose.
In a live broadcast conducted on the 21st, Myung said, "I think I made a mistake," and apologized for his remarks.
Previously, while mentioning Lee's paid fan communication service 'Bubble' on the fan communication platform Weverse, Myung stated, "His ability to attract customers is incredible."
He then added, "It is a matter of talent," and said, "I find it difficult because I do not tend to think of (fans) as customers."
Some netizens criticized the use of the term "customers" for fans as inappropriate. On the other hand, opinions supporting the statement emerged, arguing that the intent was to praise Lee Kwang-soo's fan communication skills.
As the controversy continued, Myung explained his remarks in a live broadcast. While expressing concern that an apology might actually cause harm to Lee Kwang-soo, he said, "It meant that I found him cool and respectable, and that I wanted to learn from him, but it seems that is how it came across."
He then apologized, saying, "I will be more careful and mindful in the future," and "I truly felt sorry, which is why I wanted to speak up."
Meanwhile, after starting 'Bubble' on the 1st, Lee has drawn attention with his unique sense of humor. Actress Lee Sun-bin, who is in a public relationship with Lee, also supported his fan communication activities, stating, "I think it is wonderful."
