Singer Roy Kim (33) once promised on a broadcast to sing the wedding song for actress Ji Ye-eun (32) and dancer Vata (31), but stated that he could not perform it due to his own personal principles.
On the 22nd, a video was released on the YouTube channel 'Jim Jong-guk' showing Roy Kim appearing as a guest, exercising and chatting with Kim.
In the video, Kim asked Roy Kim, “Don’t you get a lot of requests to sing wedding songs?” Roy Kim replied, “Yes. That’s why I’m not doing it anymore.”
He continued, “I did it for someone once, and then they said, ‘Aren’t we pretty close too?’ and ‘So shouldn’t you do it for me as well?’” He added, “Some people even badmouthed me behind my back because I didn’t sing their wedding song.”
Kim empathized. He said, “There are times when I sing five wedding songs in a month,” adding, “I sing the song and give a gift for close friends. It can be a bit burdensome.”
Kim recalled an incident from the past where Roy Kim had promised to sing a wedding song during his appearance on SBS’s 'Running Man.' He pointed out, “When Ye-eun asked you to sing her wedding song, you said you would do it.”
Roy Kim was taken aback, saying, “Did I?” He then mumbled, “If the timing works out and I’m really happy for them, I’d like to do it,” trying to brush it off.
Eventually, Kim called Ji, who remembered asking Roy Kim to sing her wedding song in the past. Ji recalled the moment, saying, “He said he would sing it.”
As Roy Kim hesitated to give a definitive answer and looked awkward, Ji said, “If you really don’t want to do it,” also appearing uncomfortable. In response, Roy Kim clarified, “It’s not that I don’t want to do it.”
Kim explained, “It’s not that he doesn’t want to do it; Roy Kim has set a principle of not singing wedding songs, and his company is following that policy.”
Ji said, “Then why did you say you would do it back then?” adding, “Are you saying two different things with the same mouth?” which drew laughter.
