Samsung Electronics has unveiled two models of the ultra-high-speed portable SSD (Solid State Drive) P Series (P9 and P7), equipped with the next-generation USB4 interface.
On the 26th (local time), Samsung Electronics announced that it showcased the two new portable SSDs at Gamescom 2026, the world's largest gaming show held in Cologne, Germany.
The new P Series portable SSD is symbolized by "Peace of Mind," emphasizing reliability. The company explained that these new products are optimized for environments where data volume is rapidly increasing, such as ultra-high-resolution video, AI (artificial intelligence) content, and large-scale games. The lineup includes the flagship model 'P9,' which delivers top-tier performance for professionals, and the 'P7,' designed to provide fast and convenient storage experiences across diverse usage scenarios.
The flagship model 'P9' supports industry-leading transfer speeds of up to 4000MB (megabytes) per second for continuous reading and 3800MB per second for continuous writing, based on the USB4 interface. This represents approximately a two-fold increase in continuous read and write speeds compared to the previous generation 'T Series' (T9 and T7).
Leveraging its superior continuous writing performance, the 'P9' enables professionals to stably store and edit large volumes of photos and ultra-high-resolution video without interruption on professional shooting sites. The newly unveiled 'P7' is also a storage solution that can be conveniently used across work, entertainment, and daily life, based on next-generation USB4 technology. It is compatible with various host devices including desktops, laptops, smartphones, game consoles, and cameras.
The new products have completed drop tests from a height of two meters and durability tests for impact and vibration, ensuring that important data can be safely protected even in outdoor or frequently mobile environments.

Kwon Hyung-seok, Executive Vice President of the Brand Product Business Team at Samsung Electronics' Memory Division, stated, "As AI-based content creation and the use of large-scale data such as ultra-high-resolution video become part of daily life, users expect faster and more stable storage experiences. The Portable SSD P Series will provide the best working environment not only for professionals but also for various everyday users by supporting fast file storage and backup."
Samsung Electronics' Portable SSD P Series will be available in four capacities: 1TB (terabyte), 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB. It is scheduled to launch sequentially worldwide, including in Korea, starting from September.
