Lee Bu-hwan, CEO of Hanwha Aerospace, has issued a formal apology regarding the discovery of an internal guideline that restricted job applicants based on educational background and age during the company's recent hiring process for experienced professionals.
On the 27th, Lee posted an apology statement on the Hanwha Aerospace website, stating, "We reaffirm our principle of open hiring without discrimination and will strictly adhere to it." He further added, "To prevent such incidents from occurring again, we will analyze flaws in our internal processes and comprehensively improve our systems. We promise to establish a transparent and fair organizational culture to restore trust."
Lee also stated, "As a company that must fulfill its social responsibility through fair hiring, it was absolutely unacceptable for guidelines containing content that could restrict applicants' opportunities based on personal conditions unrelated to job performance, such as educational background and age, to be created." He acknowledged this as "a clear error on our part." He emphasized, "We will issue severe warnings and disciplinary actions against the relevant departments and individuals responsible for establishing and distributing these guidelines. We will also strengthen fair hiring education for all employees to ensure a discrimination-free hiring culture takes root."
Previously, Hanwha Aerospace came under suspicion after it was revealed that it had created guidelines restricting applicants' ages and alma maters during its recent recruitment of experienced staff and sent them to HR executives and hiring managers in each business division.
