The KOSDAQ index fell more than 8% during trading on the 29th, triggering a circuit breaker (a 20-minute trading halt).
On this day, the Korea Exchange activated a Level 1 circuit breaker at 12:19:12 p.m., suspending KOSDAQ market trading for 20 minutes.
This occurred after the KOSDAQ index remained more than 8% below the previous day's closing price for one minute. Although the KOSDAQ index opened higher today, it was swept up by high volatility and quickly turned into a sharp decline.
After the Level 1 circuit breaker is lifted, if the KOSDAQ index falls more than 15% from the previous day's closing price and continues to drop an additional 1% or more below the trigger level of the Level 1 circuit breaker for one minute, a Level 2 circuit breaker will be activated. Under Level 2, trading is suspended for 20 minutes.
The circuit breaker was also triggered on the previous day due to a sharp drop in stock prices in the KOSDAQ market. This marks the fourth time this year that a circuit breaker has been activated in the KOSDAQ market.
