Wavve's original content 'Betting on Fact' and 'Fake Hunter' won the Excellence Award in the Entertainment category and the Excellence Award in the Documentary category, respectively, at the 2026 New Media Content Awards ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency.
Wavve announced on the 16th that its two original works received the honor of Na Ran-hi (수상) at the awards ceremony held on the 14th at Seoul Samsung-dong COEX.
'Betting on Fact' is a brain survival show that presents 'fake news,' which has emerged as a social issue, in an entertainment format. In a space cut off from the outside world, eight individuals from various fields—including political commentators, politicians, and entertainers—attempt to verify the authenticity of news without smartphones or internet access. Comedian Jang Dong-min secured the final victory. Rather than being a simple game show, it garnered attention for offering an interactive viewing experience that prompts viewers to ask themselves, "How would I have judged this?" Since its premiere on March 27 this year, it has driven the highest number of new paid subscriptions in Wavve's history for any entertainment program.
'Fake Hunter' is a five-part documentary that follows the stories of three sons tracing the murder case of the late Director Tak Myeong-hwan, Korea's first researcher on cult religions and a hunter of heretical groups, as well as the vast network behind it. Directed by Seo Jeong-moon PD, formerly of 'PD Notebook,' the series re-examined the truth of an event that had remained shrouded in mystery for 32 years. During its broadcast,
multiple injunction lawsuits seeking to ban the program were filed, but the court rejected all of them, recognizing its public interest value. Immediately after being released on Wavve last May, it ranked second overall and first within the current affairs and educational genre in terms of driving new paid subscriptions, achieving an unprecedented box office success for a documentary on the platform.
The simultaneous win of these two works signifies that Wavve's experimental original content strategy has been validated.
A Wavve representative stated, "Both works were attempts to address pressing issues in our society today—such as fake news and cult religions—through the language of content. We view Lee Beon (수상) as encouragement for Wavve Originals' direction of continuing original experiments. Moving forward, we will continue to present experimental content that carries social messages."
