Actor Yoo Hae-jin confessed that he was flustered after expecting to win the Best Actor award at the Baeksang Arts Awards but ultimately losing out. At the time, Yoo Hae-jin worried that the team behind "The King's Man" might be watching his reaction after not winning the Best Actor award, but he revealed that he immediately ran onto the stage upon hearing the unexpected Grand Prize announcement.
In the the 16th episode of tvN's "You Quiz on the Block," episode 360, actor Yoo Hae-jin appeared and shared his reflections following the Baeksang Arts Awards ceremony.
On that day, Yoo Jae-suk introduced Yoo Hae-jin by saying, "Yoo Hae-jin is a five-million-actor. He is the top actor in terms of cumulative box office attendance."
In fact, Yoo Hae-jin has starred in numerous films that each surpassed 10 million viewers, including "Taxi Driver," "Veteran," "The King and the Clown," "Exhuma," and "The King's Man," setting remarkable records.
Yoo Hae-jin responded with humility.
Yoo Hae-jin said, "This wasn't something I could achieve by running alone like a marathon," and added, "I was just one part of those who helped, pushed, and pulled me along," shifting credit to those around him.
Yoo Jae-suk recently mentioned Yoo Hae-jin's recent win of the Grand Prize in the film category at the Baeksang Arts Awards.
When Yoo Jae-suk said, "You won the Grand Prize in the film category at the Baeksang Arts Awards not long ago," Yoo Hae-jin began by saying, "I really didn't know at the time."
In fact, Yoo Hae-jin had attended the awards ceremony expecting to win the Best Actor award.
Yoo Hae-jin honestly admitted, "People around me said I would win the Best Actor award. I went to the ceremony with that mindset as well."
However, the result was different from expectations.
Yoo Hae-jin confessed, "But I didn't win the Best Actor award. I was surprised inside."
In fact, at the Baeksang Arts Awards held last May, the Best Male Performance in Film award went to Park Jung-min for his role in the movie "Face."
Yoo Hae-jin had even prepared an acceptance speech for the Best Actor award.
Yoo Hae-jin revealed, "I had so many thoughts," and added, "I had prepared my acceptance speech for the Best Actor award, but my mind went blank."
He was also concerned about the scheduled after-party.
Yoo Hae-jin said, "After the ceremony ended, we decided to go to an after-party together with director Jang Hang-jun, actors, and staff," and added, "I worried about how to react because I thought everyone would be watching my reaction."
He had not expected to win the Grand Prize at all.
Yoo Hae-jin recalled that moment by saying, "When they announced the Grand Prize winner, a camera was already there in advance."
He continued, "A camera came right in front of me, and I thought the film 'The King's Man' would win the Grand Prize."
However, it was Yoo Hae-jin himself who was announced as the Grand Prize winner.
Yoo Hae-jin said, "But my name was called for the Grand Prize," and added, "I used to feel frustrated watching actors walk onto the stage after being called at award ceremonies. So when I heard my name, I immediately ran out," which drew laughter from the audience.
