SOUNDBITE: (Mandarin) Wen Jiabao, Chinese Premier: "There will be up to a 950 billion yuan (138 billion (b) US dollars) accounting for less than 3 per cent of the GDP, although the deficit will increase significantly this year the constant drop in government deficits in previous years provides room to issue more bounds this year, and the ratio of the cumulative balance of outstanding government bond to GDP, which is around 20 per cent is within the acceptable range of what our overall national strength can bear and is therefore safe."

That put some optimism in the market and today when the Chinese came out and spoke, they really didn't say much that moved the market, so that took the wind out of the sails. We have General Motors, General Motors auditors came out today and said what everybody really has known for a while, which is without a whole lot more help, they're going to go bankrupt. That's putting pressure on the market."

“어제는 중국 정부가 경기부양책을 검토하고 있다는 말이 나오면서 시장이 오름세를 나타내고 낙관론이 제기됐다. 하지만 중국이 실제 발표한 경기부양책은 시장을 움직일 정도로 충분치 못해 항해하는 돛단배에 불어온 바람을 없애버린 것과 같았다. 그동안 어느 정도 내용이 예상됐던 GM의 감사보고서가 나왔는데 대규모 자금지원이 없을 경우 GM이 파산할 것이라는 내용을 담고 있다. 이 때문에 시장이 하방압력을 받았다.
